Traveling to Dutton-Brady and Valier for some great basketball action on Thursday and Friday, the Cascade Lady Badgers played two amazing games this weekend .

In Thursday’s game against the Dutton-Brady Diamondbacks, Cascade looked to avenge an early season loss.

Senior guard Georgia Mortag took matters into her own hands, scoring 40 of her team’s 58 points in Cascade’s 58-45 victory over the Diamondbacks.  Junior guard Shelbie Jackson added 12 points for the Lady Badgers.

A huge 24-6 second quarter helped Cascade overcome a 16-10 first-quarter deficit, and sent the ladies into halftime with a 34-22 advantage.  Mortag scored 20 of her 40-point total during the second period.

In the third quarter, both teams struggled to score, with Mortag scoring all nine of her team’s points that quarter to only eight points for Dutton-Brady.  The fourth quarter saw each team notch 15 points, and Cascade secured the big victory.

On Friday night, Cascade tried to finish a perfect weekend with a victory over the Valier Panthers.

Though Cascade led comfortably for most of the game, a 17-12 Valier advantage in the fourth quarter made things interesting.  The Lady Badgers had just enough to hold off the home team and took a 47-46 victory.  Hurting Cascade’s cause was a 7-26 effort at the free-throw line.

Mortag and Jackson again led the charge for the Lady Badgers, combining for 27 points in the victory.

Cascade will take on Great Falls Central Catholic on Friday, followed by a matchup with Heart Butte on Saturday.  Saturday’s game times have been shifted to 11 AM for JV girls, 12:30 for JV boys, 2 PM for varsity girls, and 3:30 for varsity boys.
