The Cascade Badgers boys’ basketball season kicks off this Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8 at the annual Cascade Tip-Off Tournament.  The squad will take on both Helena Christian and Foothills Christian during the two-day event, and fellow District 10-C school Valier will also play both of the aforementioned teams.

The Badgers of second-year head coach Roger Hatler are coming off a 4-16 season.  There are two returning starters from the 2017-2018 team, junior Ryan Bogden and senior Kolton Lynn.  Trent Cox and second-team all-conference selection Calder Ludvigson graduated last spring, and starter Dillon Shipp transferred to Columbia Falls in the offseason.  Seniors Preston and Wesley Hagan are back in Cascade after a year at Dutton-Brady and should help fill the void left by Ludvigson and Shipp.

This year’s roster includes eighth-graders Ricky Day, James Lewis, and Trayden Tait, freshmen Justin Smith and Preston Hastings, sophomores Reese Mortag, Aedan Sewak, Austin Wenzel, Josiah Mazaira, and Maxamillion Hardt, junior Bogden, and seniors Lynn, Ty Tweten, the Hagan twins and Riccardo Samoggia.

“As a team, I feel like we will play well together once we get through a couple of games,” said Bogden.  “I believe we can be one of the top teams in the district this year.”

“We are excited about the upcoming season,” said assistant coach Mike Moore.  “With four seniors and one junior, our experience should really give us an advantage in league play.  The rest of our team is very young and inexperienced, but everyone will get plenty of playing time which will only help our program in the long run.”
