In 2017, the Cascade Badgers wrestling squad won the Montana Class C state championship.

This year, the Badgers line up is looking promising with eleven wrestlers and a new coach.

Coaching the Badgers is first-year teacher Neal Coon, who moved from Plevna, Montana to Cascade. He decided to start coaching the Badgers because he has other coaching experience in football, and he wrestled when he was in high school.  Coon is also Cascade’s new high school science teacher.

“I think that this team is a very young team and will have tough competition throughout the season,” said Coon.  “It will be cool to watch this mainly young team develop into a very tough team and maybe even one that will win the state championship again.”

The Badgers are mainly a young team, however, with only two of the eleven members being seniors. The First senior is Kyle Evans, who has been wrestling for six years and was attracted to wrestling at a young age. He also thinks that the Badgers will do well and compete. The other senior is Asa O’Brien who is in his first year of wrestling.

The other wrestlers include sophomores Eli Schreher, Dylan Kline, Cameron Myre, and Lindsay Faldzinski, freshmen Caden Crowell, Nate Wadlow, Skye Smith, Lily Grismer, and Tahlea Standford.

The Badgers team is mostly a young team, and Mr. Coon hopes he can teach them a lot.  These individuals still have a long way to go, but the season’s first tournament, the annual Badger Invitational right here in Cascade, begins tomorrow morning.

Come out and support your wrestling team!
