Cascade students attended the Regional Science Fair and State Science Fair under the guidance and administration of high school science teacher, Mr. Andrew Perry and junior high science teacher, Mrs. Kelly Rumney.

Rumney was the teacher guiding Cascade’s Junior high students in their projects. She believes the science fair is a great learning experience for her students and a great way of teaching them the scientific method, public speaking, and organizational skills. As far as her students’ effort in their projects went she believed there were students that put a lot of time and effort into their projects, but there will always be those who do the absolute minimum. She said that each student had a unique way of approaching his or her project and reaching a finished project.

“Every year, students make me proud of the amount of hard work they put into the projects, and even more so, how many face their fear of public speaking to present their projects to total strangers,” said Rumney.  “I am also proud of the way the students who advanced conducted themselves in Great Falls and Missoula. Overall, science fair is a challenging but rewarding part of our science curriculum.”

Andrew Perry was the teacher in charge of guiding the high school students in their science fair project. He believes the science fair was an excellent means of teaching his students that organization and preparation in their life’s endeavors.

Six of Cascade’s junior high students advanced to state. Those who will advance are Atley Baldwin, Kodi Barnes,  Katie Skasick, Cassidy Sewak, Rikki Nefzger, and Justin Smith.

Nine of Cascade’s high school students participated in the regional science fair but were unable to advance to state. Those who participated include Madison Wilson, Carynn Fredrickson, Grace Satterwhite, Alyssa Pepos, Shay Evans, Eli Schreher, Mattison McKamey, Grae Gould, and Madeline Montanye.

Cascade’s students competed well in the regional and state science fairs and learned valuable lessons from the experience.
