Student councils have been around for decades, and Cascade High School’s student government is no exception. Founded at the beginning of the school itself, this organization has been providing Cascade with strong and responsible leadership for years.

While student council had been connected to MBI (Montana Behavioral Initiative) in the 2014-2015 school year, student council is now the only student governing body in Cascade.

Student council at Cascade School is made up of a core group of six high-schoolers and four junior high students. They are elected by the direct vote of Cascade students after a campaign and speech over the last few weeks of the previous school year.

This group of student leaders, led by science teacher Matt Driessen, meets bimonthly to discuss and make decisions on issues that affect students throughout the school. Each year, student council typically handles homecoming, fundraisers, chariot races, and Pi Day, as well as any other important school issues.

Currently, student council has assisted in electing the class officers for each grade and is preparing for 2015’s superhero-themed homecoming on October 10, as well as the Leadership Convention in Great Falls on October 25 and 26th.

Student council is an activity made for everyone who wants to make a difference in the school and leave an impact behind after they leave. If you’re interested in helping to lead the school in a new and better direction, student council is for you.
