The Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership delegates from Cascade High School have finally been announced, and they’re in for an exciting time on the campus of Montana State University – Bozeman.

Cascade’s delegates are sophomores Raija Buley and The Ketochi‘s own Cassy LaFromboise. The alternates are Brooke Hanson and Ryder Jackson.

The Cascade Women’s Club chose the winners and alternates based on the strength of anonymous essays that they wrote as part of their English classes.  Business teacher Linda Cotton makes sure that the sophomores have all of the HOBY information at their fingertips, and she also collects the essays and delivers them to the Women’s Club.  The delegates have very minimal financial responsibility for attending the seminar because the Women’s Club generously foots the bill for room and board as well.

The seminar takes place over a one-week time period and is meant to help high school sophomores develop as leaders in their schools, communities, and future careers.

After reading anonymous student essays that were written as part of their high school English classes, the Cascade Women’s Club chose the winners and alternates.  Not only does the Women’s Club choose the winners, but it also funds the trip for both of the delegates.

“Although I was unsure at first, ” said LaFromboise, “Ms. Cotton talked to me about it, and I’m pretty excited to go with Raija now.”

The two will be gaining important skills for the future as well as having a great time on the university’s campus in June.

Congratulations to all the sophomores who were selected!
