The Cascade junior high boys’ basketball team has started the season off hot with four straight wins over conference opponents.

Last weekend’s games were against the Power Pirates and the Sunburst Wildcats. The Badgers blew both teams out and maintained their undefeated status.

On Friday, the Badgers traveled to Power to face the Pirates. The Badgers dominated the game and ended up winning 59-11. Eighth-grader James Lewis played his best all-around game this far and ended the game with a triple-double consisting of 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Badgers came out of the gates hot in the first quarter. All of their shots were falling. There was nothing the Pirates could do to stop the Badgers superior size and skill. The Badgers ended the quarter up 21-5.

The second quarter brought much more of the same, and the Badgers kept pushing the tempo to build a commanding 39-7 lead at halftime.

With a running clock throughout the second half, the Badgers’ scoring slowed down a bit in the second half. However, they still dominated defensively, allowing the Pirates to only score 4 points in the half. The Badgers came out strong in the third and pretty much ended the game, as they went up 49-10.

The Fourth quarter had similar numbers and the Badgers scored ten points again. They held Power to only one point in the fourth, and the game ended with the Badgers winning dominantly. The final score was 59-11. Eighth-grader Trayden Tait added 18 points in the win.

The second game of the weekend was against the Sunburst Wildcats on Saturday morning. The Badgers again dominated their competition and ended the game with a 67-28 win. Tait led the Badgers in scoring this game with 20 points.

The Badgers started the game off very unorganized but got control of it and ended the quarter with a 15-4 lead over the home team.

The Badgers kept the momentum going into the second quarter and ended the half with a 28-12 lead.

Cascade really turned it up in the second half and scored 21 points in the third quarter alone. They went into the final quarter with a 59-25 lead.

The Badgers maintained their scoring in the fourth and ended the game with a 67-28 win. Lewis and Brodie Ober added 19 and 10 points respectively to the win. Ober also had 11 rebounds to end the game with a double-double.

“We played our best games of the season this weekend,” said head coach Ashley Tait.  “We took care of the ball really well, played unselfishly, and continued to improve as a team.”

The Badgers will play Simms at home on Friday and Great Falls Central away on Saturday. Come support the Badgers this weekend!
