Throughout three jamboree seasons, three regular seasons, and two summer leagues, the current junior high boys’ basketball team has put in countless hours of work and dedication to basketball.

After a strong jamboree season, their hard work continued to show in the two home games they played this past weekend against the Foothills Falcons and Vaughn Wildcats.

The Badgers started off the season with a 47-18 victory over Foothills. Eighth graders Trayden Tait and James Lewis led the scoring effort for the Badgers with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The game started off very slowly as the Badgers led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter.

The Badgers knew they had to pick up the pace, but they wouldn’t until halftime. The end of the second quarter ended with the Badgers up 19-11 on the visiting Falcons.

The Badgers came out of the locker room at halftime, determined to put the Falcons out of the game for good. That is exactly what they did. The Badgers scored 20 points in the third period and held their opponent to 5 points. The Badgers crushed any chance of a comeback from Foothills and even held the visiting team to only two points in the fourth quarter.

This was the Badgers’ first win of the season, and it is hopefully a sign of things to come.

“I thought we were a bit sloppy, but it was fairly typical of the first home game of the season,” said head coach Ashley Tait.  “The boys settled down after halftime and locked down Foothills defensively.”

The second game of the weekend was against the Vaughn Wildcats. The Badgers dominated once again and ended the game with a 56-23 win. Lewis led the Badger with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. Tait followed with 14 points.

The Badgers started the game off hot and scored 18 points in the first quarter. It seemed that no matter what they threw at the Badgers, Vaughn could not stop them. Lewis hit an amazing halfcourt shot to end the quarter for an 18-7 lead over the visitors.

The Badgers continued their great scoring and had 21 points in the second. This added up to a 39-16 lead at halftime for the Badgers.

The third quarter was much of the same. The Badgers scored 15 in the third quarter and Vaughn scored only two.  Once Cascade built a 30-point lead, a running clock ensued.

Though the Badgers only scored two points in the final quarter, they held Vaughn to only five.

These two games were huge for the Badgers, and they started a hopefully very successful season.

Earlier in the week, Cascade dropped a 56-23 decision to the Fairfield Eagles.

The Badgers will travel to Power on Friday and Sunburst on Saturday. Go Badgers!
