Famous UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once said, “Nothing will work unless you do.”

This is the quote that the Cascade Lady Badgers junior high girls’ basketball team uses every day to work harder and achieve their goals.

This season, the Lady Badgers are focusing on improving their fundamentals by starting out every practice with working on their dribbling, passing, ball handling, and shooting form.

“There have been noticeable improvements from the start of the jamboree season,” said first-year head coach Christa Hardy.  “We have done so much with drilling fundamentals, and it has definitely shown.”

The team will feature ten eighth-grade players, Alaina Barger, Preslee Carroll, Madison Cope, Jolee Davis, Sydney Gutierrez, Harlie Jackson, Elizabeth Langenderfer, Kodiann Lynn, Kayleen McKamey, and Sallie Orem. Five seventh graders, including Jazmyn Halverson, Braedyn Johnson, Bridget Mortag, Makaela Pribyl, and Kayla Satterwhite, have joined the team as well. Five young sixth graders will also take the court this season.  They are Raygan Carroll, Sophia Mortag, Hattie Orem, Zoey Rose, and Audrey Rumney.

Hardy will be joined on the bench by assistant coach Liz Edmundson.

Both coaches believe that the girls are very enthusiastic, are willing to work hard and improve their skills, and are very coachable.

“They never want practice to be over,” said Hardy.  “They want to be in the gym and get better. I think this team is really special and believe they have such a bright future.”

The girls are excited to take on one game at a time and work toward winning the district tournament.
